harimad, thanks for the tip! world market was the next place we were planning to look (their website makes it look like they have jute rugs in two sizes)...and the oakland bed bath & beyond is only a block away from it!

our current rug situation:
we have karastan rugs directly on the wood floors in the bedrooms, and i haven't noticed them slipping...we also have an oriental rug that will go in either the living or dining room once we finish unpacking and clean the floors again. i'd prefer to have it in the living room and not have any rugs in the dining room, but i'm concerned about the dining chairs marring the bare floors...even though i put felt feet on the chairs, there were some indents in the apartment floor from my mom's chair...however, there are some other issues with the chairs and eric and i aren't thrilled by the dining set in general. alas, spending money on a new dining set is a low priority in part because of the emotional cost of trying to get rid of my mother's set (which she's had 30+ years) and replacing it with something that would be more arts & crafts (i'd love something similar to this) and less queen anne/colonial (keep in mind that mom is from maryland and love love loves cape cod & neo-colonial homes). anyway, the jute rug is for the kitchen to cover the hideous linoleum and then possibly be used outdoors on a patio if/when we remodel the kitchen and build a patio...

When I was looking for matching washable nonslip rugs in various sizes, I found several sets at Bed Bath & Beyond/LinensNThings. I also found a nonwashable jute rug at World Market. That rug required a rug pad so it wouldn't slip on the wood floor.
